“Teach them to be first humans, then Christians and then saints.”
St Eugene de Mazenod

Inspired by the missionary nature of our Oblate spirituality, Social Justice is a central part of school life at Mazenod College. We seek to engage every student in meaningful programs which will become a life-long commitment to the values of service and outreach to the marginalised in our world. St Eugene challenged his fellow Oblates to “...practice charity, charity, charity” and this is expressed in numerous ways across the College.

Mission Action Day

Mission Action Day is the platform for our community driven support of the work of the Oblates worldwide and we are pleased to be able to raise funds that are needed more than ever to assist their work overseas. These funds directly support projects that are planned, implemented, and then audited by the Oblates in conjunction with the local communities they serve.

Building Bridges

Inspired by St Eugene’s call to “have but one heart, one soul” and guided by the example of Jesus Christ, Catholic social teaching, and our founding charism, Mazenod is an inclusive Christian community that ensures the equity, dignity and respect of all people, regardless of race, gender, religion or ethnicity. One of the programs that contributes to this is the Building Bridges program, an Interfaith Dialogue project, which has been a feature of Social Justice at the College for many years. This has created close and meaningful connections with our local school communities of various faith backgrounds.

Indigenous Perspectives

Reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continues to be a high priority for our Mazenod community. We recognise that Mazenod College operates on Bunurong Land and commit ourselves to a future of reconciliation and shared story with the Bunurong People. This is expressed through our involvement in ‘National Reconciliation Week’ and NAIDOC week as well as working on various projects/focuses to greater represent Indigenous voice in our community.

Ecology and Sustainability Team

Responding to the call of Pope Francis to honour the dignity of creation, we are committed to the Laudato Si Goals as we continue to support the work of our Ecology and Sustainability Team (EAST).
