Modern education with traditional foundations.

Mazenod College has a history of outstanding success in VCE and Vocational education. This success is underpinned by an evidence-based approach to learning, focusing on explicit teaching and individualised educational pathways. We recognise that young men thrive in well-structured classes, nourished by affirming teacher-student relationships.

Visible Learning

The Mazenod education philosophy is based on the Visible Learning framework, informed by scholars such as John Hattie, Dylan Wiliam, Anita Archer, and Barak Rosenshine.

Fundamentally, we believe that for a young man to learn, he needs to know what is expected of him and how to achieve it. Our teachers focus on clear expectations supported by regular individualised feedback, visible to students and parents alike.

I would not be pursuing my dream without the one-on-one support I got from my teachers throughout my time at Mazenod. But beyond academics, I was involved in the College musicals with Avila, ACC Swimming, Cross Country, Table Tennis and Chess, I was a College leader, and I volunteered for Rosies and Oblate Youth Australia.

High Expectations

At Mazenod, we hold young men to the highest standards of literacy, oracy and numeracy, leading our students to achieve well above expectations in both NAPLAN and VCE results. This involves developing targeted individual plans for students with additional needs while recognising and enhancing personal excellence in all students.

Beyond academic success, Mazenod students develop skills in analytical and critical thought and emphasise the value of learning as an ongoing factor in self-development throughout life. Overall, we expect our students to become compassionate and resourceful young men.

A Pathway for Every Young Man

A truly Catholic education should nourish the diversity of skills in our community and honour the dignity of every vocation. To make this belief manifest, we offer an astonishing variety of subjects culminating in a list of 40 subjects to choose from at Year 12 level across the VCE and VCE Vocational Major pathways. These subjects cover the traditionally academic, the cutting edge in technology, the performing and visual arts, and the trades.

Our breadth of offerings ensures that for every young man there is a pathway. We are confident that each student can find an educational path that is both enriching and which fosters future success. We encourage you to explore our subject offerings, and to investigate our subject selection guide.

Support for Diverse Learners

The Mazenod Approach recognises and welcomes a diverse range of learners, and support is offered through both a variety of enhancement programs and a well-resourced Learning Diversity centre with expert staff including a dedicated Learning Diversity Psychologist.

Young men with particular learning needs are welcomed and supported through targeted literacy and numeracy interventions, individual learning plans, and a range of specialised support programs. We encourage parents of young men with particular learning needs to make contact with our Learning Diversity team to discuss what supports may be available.
