Exploring Science, Protecting Nature

Mazenod College’s Science Week has taken on extra significance this year with the launch of a new partnership in conservation. As part of Zoos Victoria’s Fighting Extinction Schools Program, our students will have the chance to explore hands-on projects aimed at protecting Australia’s most threatened wildlife.
This week, students are immersing themselves in Science Week 2025 through a series of engaging lunchtime activities designed to challenge, excite, and inspire curiosity. From decoding DNA and investigating craters, to solving escape room puzzles, exploring laser interference, and uncovering messages from outer space, every day offers a new opportunity to think, create, and discover.
The Fighting Extinction Schools Program recognises Mazenod’s commitment to supporting conservation efforts for native species and provides unique opportunities for students to learn about biodiversity and take meaningful action. Through this collaboration, our Science Department will work with Zoos Victoria to foster a deeper understanding of environmental challenges and encourage our students to become active stewards of the natural world.
By combining the excitement of Science Week with the purpose of conservation, Mazenod is inspiring curiosity, problem-solving, and care for our shared environment — qualities that will serve our students well into the future.
