Mission Action Day
Friday 5th April 2019
The tradition of Mission Action Day continued on the final day of term 1 with a day filled with community spirit. We drew on the guiding principles of the College Vision and Mission Statement and lived the words of St Eugene De Mazenod ‘We have but one heart, one soul’ as we came together to raise funds to support the work of the Oblate Fathers. The students immersed themselves in the day that included an Easter liturgy, a walkathon and a wide range of fundraising activities. The traditional stalls including coin toss, mini golf and pizza continued to raise funds for the Oblates and this year they were joined by newcomers including a Bubble Tea stall, the Curry Shack and a special guest appearance by Peter Hitchener, a newsreader popular with the students through his social media posts.
Thanks to the many people involved in organising and running MAD. From setting up stages and equipment, preparing the Easter liturgy, planning logistics for all students to safely complete the walkathon, organising games and activities, ordering food, co-ordinating raffle prizes, preparing money floats and then actually running the day itself, the workload is shared by many willing contributors whose efforts are appreciated.
At the conclusion of the day Fr Sherman addressed the College Community and expressed his thanks for raising funds and awareness for the Oblate Missions. He explained that donations directly supported projects that were planned, implemented and then audited by the Oblates in conjunction with the local communities they serve.
Thanks to families for their generous financial donations and particular thanks to those who also provided prizes for the raffles – your contributions made for an amazing range of items to be won. The list of donated items has been detailed in the newsletters for the past few weeks (with a reminder below) – please take note of the donations and make an effort to support the families and businesses who so kindly supported our fundraising for the Oblates on Mission Action Day. Particular thanks to the Kwan family at Scorptec Computers, Clayton (James YR 8), MOCA (Mazenod Old Collegians Association), Murphy family (Matthew YR 8), Torcasio family at Rokk Ebony, Nguyen family at Bread and Cake Delight, Springvale (Aaron YR 8) and the Koe-Leong family (Philip YR 12 & Joshua YR 10).
