In the spirit of Reconciliation, in 2017 a group of Year 12 Mazenod College students took part in “The Long Walk” from Federation Square to the MCG where they attended the “Dreamtime at the ‘G” match between Essendon and Richmond. The Long Walk was inspired by the former AFL player of Indigenous descent, Michael Long’s walk to Canberra in 2004, while the purpose of Dreamtime at the ‘G is to recognise Indigenous AFL players past and present. For the record, Richmond won the match!
Mazenod College held a historic Reconciliation Ceremony to acknowledge the original custodians of the land, the Wurundjeri people and to encourage students to learn more about Indigenous culture. The event was initiated by the Mazenod College Social Justice Committee and included a traditional smoking ceremony in which everyone was invited to walk past the fire in an act of purification.
