Mr Tony Coghlan was appointed the first Lay Principal of Mazenod College for a three year term (2019 to 2021). “Australia Remembers – World War 2 Music Night” was held in the multipurpose room as part of the commemorations for the 50th Anniversary of the end of WWII. The local Federal Member of Parliament Julian Beale MP presented prizes to students for the best essay in the “Mazenod College Remembers 1945-1995” essay competition.
Ms Natina Giacco (Social Science Co-Ordinator) received Federal Government funding for a book containing stories of Mazenod College students’ grandparents and friends who lived through WWII. Ms Giacco was also invited by the Minister for Veterans Affairs The Hon Con Sciacca MP to participate in the National Youth Forum in Brisbane to observe the 50th Anniversary of the end of WWII.
Fr Kevin Davine OMI had been aware of the need for a new staff room for some time as the space used for a staff communal area was quite small. With the Board’s approval, he had plans drawn up to develop the staff area, originally a couple of classrooms. The area was extended and a large, well lit staff area created, which staff were delighted with. It provided a much larger area for staff to gather at morning tea and lunch time, as well as a place for other social functions for the College community.
Following the retirement of the Deputy Principal Mr Harry Boundy in 1990, Mr Michael Pennefather, from Aquinas College was appointed the new Deputy Principal in 1991.
