Fr Michael Twigg OMI commenced as the eighth Rector of Mazenod College and served in that role till the end of 2014 when it was announced that he would be the new Rector of Iona College in Brisbane.
Prior to the World Youth Day event in Sydney, Mazenod College hosted the International Oblate Youth Encounter (IOYE) which was a four day gathering of young Oblates from Australia and 31 countries around the world. Organised by Fr Christian Fini OMI, the participants included Mazenod students, staff and a special guest from Rome – the Very Rev Fr Wilhelm Steckling OMI, Superior General of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
Fr Pat Moroney OMI returned as Rector of Mazenod College at the beginning of 2002 and served in that role until the end of 2009.
In the year 2000, the Inaugural Mass was held for the first time at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne. The main celebrant was Bishop Denis Hart. Since then, all the College’s Inaugural Masses have been at St Patrick’s.
The 1999 Inaugural Mass was held at the Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University for the first time due to building work being undertaken at Mazenod College.
Fr John Sherman OMI became the sixth Rector of Mazenod College and served in that role from 1996 to the end of 2001. He was previously at Mazenod from 1973 to 1983 and during that time his roles included Bursar, Sports Master and teacher.
