Students at Mazenod are given the opportunity to study either Italian, Japanese or Chinese (Mandarin). In order to make their experience of language learning as authentic as possible, students are encouraged to practice their language at every opportunity. To this end, Mazenod College has formed relationships with a sister school in Bergamo, Italy, Osaka, in Japan and Beijing, in China. In recent years we have had visits from both Italian and Japanese students and these have been warmly welcomed by our community and billeted in students' homes. Our students have also had the opportunity to travel to Italy, China and to Japan, study tours to each country being organised in alternate years. Apart from the obvious opportunity to practice language, these exchanges are a wonderful opportunity to foster understanding and empathy between different cultures and many enduring friendships have formed.
